Workshops

Our hour-long workshops allow active engagement in the learning process and can run concurrently to accommodate 60 students (with a 20:2 students – facilitators ratio).

Administrators can choose from our three standardized workshop options or workshop offerings can be molded to meet their curricular or performance-based needs.

Words, Words, Word
Ideal for English courses studying Shakespeare or in preparation for future literary or script analysis, “Words, Words, Words” creates high-energy engagement as students rewrite, practice, and perform scenes. Through performance exercises, this workshop helps students analyze text, allowing them to demystify Shakespeare’s language, removing apprehension and making it accessible and familiar. Participants are encouraged to apply context-clues and known semantic and vocabulary indicators to Shakespearean text to create contemporary scenes before returning to the original text with their newfound comprehension.

Thinking Makes It So
“Thinking Makes It So” is ideal for students interested in learning the fundamentals of taking a play from page to stage. Participants explore dramatic form, analyze the characters and actively play a role, thereby gaining further insight into Shakespeare’s work and the art of theatrical storytelling. Exercises shed light on literary and dramatic devices; exploring key characters in the play, the obstacles and the tactics used by the character to achieve their goals, and how these combine to create and support the plot and themes of the play.

I Bite My Thumb

Our specialized stage combat workshop for Drama students, “I Bite My Thumb,” returns by popular demand. Focusing on control, safety and trust, this workshop takes students through the steps of creating believable, but safe, stage combat and culminates in a six-phase “fight” that students choreograph implementing practiced moves they have acquired.

Our workshops can be conducted on a gym floor, open stage, band or chorus room, or in a classroom setting with moveable desks.
